Towards eye-tracker standardization — a research on artificial eyes

Artificial eyes are important tools for measuring data quality for eye-trackers. Since real eyes vary according to color, shape, and pupil size, artificial eyes should serve as a standard way to exclude the human factors from the data quality measurements. However, although there are different kinds of artificial eyes that work on different eye-trackers, there is no standard artificial eye or a standard method to measure with artificial eyes. In this study, we’ll develop one or more standard artificial eyes that work across different eye-trackers for precision, accuracy, and system latency tests. The artificial eyes will be robotic to measure data quality with regard to eye dynamics. Designing a standardized set of artificial eyes has been a long-discussed topic by data quality committee of COGAIN (Communication by Gaze Interation) and this project will be explored in collaboration with the committee members.
